Cotton grass

Cotton grass received its name according to the white hary top which appears on the plants in June. These are not blossoms, but fruits. Long hairs are attached to these fruits which enables them to be spread by the wind over large distances.

In the project area we have 2 species of cotton grass: Narrow leafed-cotton grass (Eriophorum angustifolium) and sheathed cotton grass (Eriophorum vaginatum).
