Biodiversity in the southern Eggegebirge

Whinchat

The whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) is a 13 cm large, short-tailed bird. Because of habitat loss, deterioration of food availability and disturbances in their breeding grounds the population of this species has been declining ever since the 1960ies.

The project areas offer appropriate habitat conditions and tranquility to this ebdangered species, so that we can observe some breeding pairs every year.
